Our lively city holds events all year round and all visitors are welcomed to participate. Each event brings out the city’s cultural and historical aspects that are unique to our city alone.
Sasayama Castle is famous for being one of the best cherry blossom viewing spots in the Hyogo prefecture.
During this once a year flower viewing-event, we recommend that you stay for the night as a bonfire will be lit, illuminating the 1000 Yoshino cherry trees in full-bloom scattered around the castle.
This festival is known for being one of the largest folk song festivals in western Japan. During the day several dance competitions are held together with a large selection of dance workshops for those who would like to join in on the festivities.
At night, local and visitors come together to dance around a wooden tower as fireworks light up the midsummer night sky.
One of the three major festivals of Tamba Sasayama and has been handed down for 400 years. The highlight of this event is called Yabusame where an archer on a running horse shoots three special “turnip-headed” arrows successively at three wooden targets.
During this festival, Ten floats and seven portable shrines with taiko drums are paraded throughout precinct shrines located in Yoimiya.
The event takes place in Kurikara Fudoson where a stone statue of Fudo Myo is enshrined in the base of the Fudo Waterfall. During this event, the townsfolk to gather and pray for a year of good health and family safety.
Combined with the unique atmosphere, the townsfolk participate in a unique ritual called “Firewalking”. A structure made of cypress to be burned and the townsfolk walk on the charcoal remains as 17 people from the Tamba Ominekai chant their prayers.

An ancient temple erected in the second year of Taika. Before Akechi Mitsuhide tried to burn the temple, there were seven doors and twenty-one monks. It was known to be the “evening bell of Kozoji” as one of the eight views of Oyama.
A Japanese hot spring that opened in 1999. It is known for its excellent water quality and soothing temperature. It houses two large public baths. The baths are made out of a stone found in Tamba Sasayama and are one of the town’s specialties.
On the west side of Ojiyama Park lies a stone stairway lined up with numerous red Torii gates. The shrine has the name “Makekirai” (hate-to-lose) which originated from the passing down the shrine’s story for generations upon generations.
This historic spot was burnt down on January 6, 1944, but due to the wishes and donations of the locals of Tamba Sasayama, it was rebuilt in March 2000. The castle contains an exhibition room. a theater room, and a panel display to explain the history and construction of the castle.
The temple was originally founded as “Tenchizan Gokurakuji ” by Hermit Hodo in Hakuchi Period. The temple prospered with a lot of Monks’ residences. However, in the Genpei War (1184), the general “Yoshitsune Minamoto” suspected the Heishi lying in ambush and set fire to the temple.
A former town hall that was renovated into a new sightseeing base. The exterior has a Western design reminiscent of Taisho Modernism. The facility houses several restaurants and souvenir shops that sell food and products that are unique to Tamba Sasayama.
